yyc/lrt double dragon
2020
plasma torch cut steel (by hand) out of YYC/LRT C-Trian carriage 2002, and aerosol on Oscillating Strand Board
24"x24"x2.5"
This double-dragon motif is part of the custom stencil lexicon of symbology, which is often utilized as an 'underpainting' for my continuous, intuitive-line-based figures. This icon represents hybridity, as dragons are hybrids of various animals. Similarly, my figurative artworks are cultural and ethnic hybrids, representing the diverse cultural landscape of my surroundings. Each stencil I use for my underpainting process was directly plasma torch cut into YYC/LRT. I kept the cut-outs and reconstituted them back into the Double-Dragon. Essentially, you could own a piece of the oldest C-Train carriage in existence from the original Siemens-Duewag U2 series that launched in 1981 —a piece of Calgary Heritage.
Please note: Shipping fees are not included in the purchase of original artwork. Shipping and installation can be agreed upon before or after purchase. I have more original artwork for sale. If you would like to see this or other pieces in person or virtually, please email me to schedule a viewing.
