Beautiful Loser was created using a flame drawing, a method I conceived of in the studio to make continuous line sculptures in 3D. It comes from how I draw in my sketchbook and paint using sign painter tools, which help me make smooth, natural lines. I use an oxygen-acetylene torch and a MIG welder to shape solid round steel bars. I bend and weld only line segments, always connecting back to the two starting points, making one unbroken line.
Plinth is not included.
